Terry Fox Run

SJU-S/026/2012-13 February 13, 2013

Dear Parents,

Greetings from Universal.

It gives me immense satisfaction to share with you that we are participating in the Terry Fox Run, being held on Sunday, 3rd March, 2013 in our city for school children.

The initiative is in the memory of Terrance Stanley, a Canadian athlete who initiated this marathon in 1980, at the age of 18, after being diagnosed with bone cancer. With one leg amputated, he embarked on a cross Canada run to raise money and awareness for cancer research. The spread of cancer eventually forced him to end his quest after 143 days and 5373 kms and ultimately cost him his life. However his efforts resulted in a lasting worldwide legacy and are now the World's largest one day fund raiser for cancer research.

We at Universal believe that children form ideas about who they are and how they fit into the world around them early in life. The attitudes and skills needed to make a positive contribution to make the world a better place and learn empathy needs to be encouraged and developed from an early age. We conduct several activities, organize many events and take part in many global events in this pursuit of ours. Participation in the Terry Fox run and raising funds for cancer research is also a part of this endeavor.

We appeal to all our parents to help us in raising funds for this noble and worthy cause and donate generously.

Contributions also can be sent by DD or by cheque favouring Tata Memorial Hospital.
Please write your personal details at the back of the cheques to avail tax benefits.

Participation in the run;
Students from class 7 to 9. [You will get the details about the event and logistics shortly]

Objectives;
– To engage students with an opportunity to give back to their community
-To inspire future generations with Terry's story of courage, selflessness and hope
-To teach empathy to our students
-To raise money for leading cancer research Institutes /Hospitals

Proceeds
Proceeds from all the donations collected will be gifted to: Tata Memorial Cancer Research Institute, Mumbai

Last day / date of submission
Kindly send the donation form and money collected on or before 20th February 2013 to the class teacher

Join the largest display of solidarity against Cancer on the planet and inspire your children to play their role in making world a better place and to follow Terry's example of never giving up.
